A tribute to my father

Father’s day was celebrated on 20th June 2010 in over 50 countries. It’s a day for Dad to rest, sleep in and revel in the love of his family. While I have always loved my father, I did not realize the importance of Father’s day until very recently. What is it that makes this day so important?

Well for firsts, fathers are the biggest source of strength for a child. The innocent eyes of a child perceive their father as the all-powerful , most knowledgeable, truly affectionate and the most important person in the family. Their fathers are the strongest person they know and someone they aspire to emulate. Fathers are someone whom they look up to for the most experienced and honest advice that is always in the best of their interest.

Fathers are someone to take care of our needs and interests. Someone to stop us when we are diverting to a wrong path and guide us on a road to success and virtue. Fathers never ever give a smallest of hint to let us know how hard they work to take care of our needs and fulfill even the most whimsical of demands… For all their adorable scolding and affectionate punishments we all owe a big thanks to our Dads.

While filmmakers and poets sing songs of the greatness of a mother, hardly few give the same honour to a father. I am not saying that what they do is wrong; but I just feel that it would be better if for every 10 songs for a mother, there could be one for a father as well.

Father’s Day also brings with it the wonderful opportunity to apologize for all our rude and insensitive behavior. We as children often take the love and affection of our parents for granted and treat them with outright contempt. We need to apologize. We must feel great to have the presence of loving father in our lives and do not disrespect the blessing of God on us.

Here’s a short poetry we all have heard dedicated to every father in this world..

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it … Dad

For this great figure in our life that we know as father – it becomes our utmost duty to pay our humblest tribute on the occasion of Father’s Day.
